As an undergrad working in "bioformatics and genomics" for a global corporation, I must say thank you for the interview. I found this, as well as the others posted on this site, very interesting and informative.

"Like most scientists brought up on wet bench research I have a high level of skepticism of in silico projects that do not touch down to test simulations and speculations by experimental methods."

"Absolutely agree. The graphic interface has to mirror the scientific thought processes that we use when we conceptualize the data"

That is for me, the two most important answers for us (pre-,pro-,post-)bioinformaticians. In many institutions I'm sure there's a big gap yet, between what's being done in wet bench research and in silico, so that there should be a joint effort to provide questions to be faced by bioinformaticians and these to ask for experimental support to reinforce their approaches/solutions.
And related to the second answer, when developing such solutions/applications, either web-based or stand alone, there should be taken special care on the most basic concepts of human-interface interaction, regarding usability or information architecture so that there will finally be a real solution not another powerful-but-cryptic interface for 'techies'.

Even if it's the most in-house application ever made, there must be a special care on to who's directed. That is a big clue for enhancing research from a bioinformatics' point of view.

Excuse my english.
