Joseph, Beta lost its actual meaning when Google started slapping the label on every service they created, leaving them at beta stage for years and years. So, if Mendeley is still beta, in the old meaning of Beta Software, why the heavy PR, the attempt to censor people, the social liaisons? It's not an official software yet, according to you, so it's not definite, not ready for prime time, so it should be released to a limited number of users, and then when it reaches the point that it can be a release candidate than it should be done.

And, if I'm not able to criticize an application just because is beta, should I only praise it? An application from a company that sent an email threatening me and demanding that I would be quiet.

"I guess everyone at Mendeley Corp, or Inc, vote for BNP"

I guess it's no coincidence that my spell-checker corrects Mendeley to Mengele...

I think you are being cruel for the sake of it. "Beta" means that the app has been released to users for software testing before its official release so they are hoping that you provide them with feedback about any problems you might have.
I think Mendeley is cool and there is no other app that does what Mendeley does so instead of being cynical, I think you could try to be a bit more constructive.

Interesting review. Will you ever tell us how they tried to censor you?

From attempted censorship to constructive feedback. I'm losing my mojo, or becoming too soft.

Paulo. Thanks for the constructive feedback about beta v0.9. We should have an update 0.9.1 out later this week or next that fixes the bugs you mentioned and a few others.

For now, though inconvenient, we recommend importing articles in batches of 200 or fewer. Ideally, that won't be necessary once we reach version 1.0 and take the beta label off.

As a MacBook user myself, I agree about the design. We'll get there!

All the best,

Jason Hoyt, PhD
Research Director, Mendeley
